Creating merch for a famous channel
Getting new designs up on the ThatWasEpic’s channel shop isn't as easy as it sounds. It all kicked off when Albert Gracious, the Art Director, hit me up on my Instagram art page. We chatted about a few ideas and then he asked me to take a shot at this Cholo Bird project. After tons of sketches, we finally got it right. Juan, who runs the channel, was seriously happy with the outcome, and the Cholo Bird Design even ended up being the top seller in the shop.
Creating a brand around a birdie character
Cholo Bird is just one of the personas Juan from the ThatWasEpic Youtube channel has cooked up. It's a nod to his Mexican roots and shows off his knack for acting out a gangsta role on his channel. I gave it everything I had to make this Bird vibe with Juan's character, matching the outfit, the pose, and even the props. In the end, not only did it sell like hotcakes, but it also became a symbol people associate with the channel.
Now the Cholo bird guides you though
They asked me to whip up more sketches and designs for the guides section on ThatWasEpic.com shop website. You can check them out in the highlight. The plan was simple: just represent what it actually is. After a few drafts, it all came together nicely, and we decided to keep that raw "sketch" look.
